President William Ruto has revealed the details of the last official meeting he had with the late ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the ODM Founders Dinner in Mombasa on Saturday night, Ruto relayed that his final official discussion with Raila was about how to turn Kenya from a third-world country to a first-world country.

According to Ruto, the meeting was also attended by Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o and Professor Hiroyuki Hino, who were to provide expertise in the discussions.

“The last meeting I had with Baba, Anyang Nyong’o was there, and Hino was there. We had sat down to craft how to move Kenya from a third-world country to a first-world country,” he said.

“We said Kenya has moved through hoops for far too long, and we could not continue like that. All of you seated here know Baba’s ideas. This man, Simba Arati, came with a team from Kisii. Baba came to that meeting, and he explained to people why South Korea is ahead of us, and we agreed on things to do to get there.”

Since his funeral ceremony, Ruto has admitted that he has been in touch with Governor Nyong’o, who is reportedly drafting up a framework in pursuit of the same.

Among the things he claimed to have discussed with the ODM leadership is the need to generate 10,000 megawatts of energy, relaying that the Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi already had instructions on how to accomplish that.

He also added the need to improve Kenya’s infrastructure, including extending the highway, building a new airport and tarmacking 10,000 more kilometres of road.

“There are things that we have agreed to do that will move Kenya from being a third-world country, in honour of Raila Odinga.”

Over the past few months, the President has been drumming up a campaign to transform Kenya into a first-world country, an endeavour that is set to cost Kenya trillions.

Speaking during a church meeting last month, Ruto said that Kenya is poised to transform into a first-world country by 2030.

“I want to say this in church: that by God’s grace, we have been in the third world for far too long. We have had our fair share, and it is now time, by God’s grace, the efforts of our hands, the blessings of our plans, and the energy and unity of the people of Kenya, to move this country from a third-world to a first-world country in the next 30 years,” Ruto said.
