Ruto team addresses way forward after Raila’s ultimatum on bipartisan talks even as they accuse Olekina and Sifuna of being a stumbling block.

Senator Boni Khalwale of Kakamega claims that Edwin Sifuna and Ledama Olekina are the main obstructions to the bipartisan negotiations.

The senator claimed that despite the Azimio La Umoja teams’ lack of cooperation, the Kenya Kwanza team is totally committed to the negotiations but is having difficulties.

“They don’t want to look in the eyes of our co-chair, Olekina and Sifuna are the biggest problems in the meeting, they have never participated in talks like these. The young people stand up and say they want to declare the end of talks before making any contribution,” he said.

Khalwale added that Kenyans need to know the level of dishonesty that has been going on with the bipartisan talks.

“We are not talking today, because the Azimio team has called off the talks, who said we were supposed to agree? They have refused to allow points of disagreements to be articulated,” Khalwale added.

Khalwale said the decision to end the talks was due to the ongoing Jubilee leadership wrangles, yet that was not the main reason for the talks.

He added that the Azimio team needed to look at the bigger picture and listen to their concerns if the stalemate was to be resolved.

“We did not go to the talks over Jubilee issues, the issues put on the table do not mention Jubilee.”

The bipartisan talks were called off on Tuesday, May 23 with the two factions failing to agree over a number of issues including the alleged interference of Jubilee Party affairs by President William Ruto.

The ODM boss also alleged that Ruto had lost control of his team with some of the Kenya Kwanza representatives receiving instructions from other quarters of government.

“They are getting different instructions and areas clearly pulling in different directions. Secondly, Kenya Kwanza has no clear direction on whether the talks should proceed or not,” the ODM boss stated.
