Ruto tells off Raila over extrajudicial killings probe linked to DCI Cops

Ruto tells off Azimio leader Raila Odinga over his call to involve foreign police outfits such as Scotland Yard to probe extra-judicial killings linked to DCI cops.

On Friday, November 4, President William Ruto criticized Raila Odinga’s calls for the investigation into the extrajudicial executions connected to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations  (DCI) to include foreign investigators.

Ruto asserted that Kenya has the capacity to resolve the issue with the aid of constitutional institutions during the launch of the State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice at the Supreme Court.

“We do not need advice from Scotland Yard to disband the murderous units in our police force. We didn’t need advice from anywhere…we just needed to respect our Constitution,” President Ruto said.

“We just needed to respect other institutions and do the right thing. Supporting a professional police force will guarantee the security of our forces.”

According to Ruto, his administration was committed to enhancing professionalism in the police service and consequently curbing cases of human rights violations.

“Supporting a professional police force will guarantee the life of every Kenyan, and we will get rid of the menace of extra-judicial killings.

“We suddenly don’t need the support of institutions built by others, we can build ours,” he insisted.

Ruto also vowed to uphold the independence of the Judiciary by enhancing its financial ability and independence.

“If you care about the economy, national security, constitutional rights, you must care about the state of our Judiciary,” he stated.

In a press conference on Thursday, Raila asked that Ruto enlist the aid of skilled and impartial homicide detectives from Scotland Yard to look into many incidents, including the murder of Chris Msando, a former ICT manager for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Additionally, President Ruto’s decision to dissolve the Special Services Unit of the DCI and the continued attacks on former DCI director George Kinoti are allegedly directed at specific people, according to Raila.
