Ruto thanks Ethiopian PM Abiy for saving his job

Ruto thanks Ethiopian PM Abiy saved for saving his job as head of state over the Safaricom deal.

President William Ruto lit up a room full of Ethiopian delegates after he narrated how Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed saved his job as head of state.

Speaking on October 6, Ruto described his trip to Ethiopia as being primarily focused on obtaining a license for Safaricom to do its business in the country.

He said that the two engaged in hours-long negotiations and that an agreement was only reached at the eleventh hour as the prime minister was a tough negotiator.

Ruto described his trip to Ethiopia as an assignment given by Kenyans wondering what actions he would have taken if the PM’s office had refused to issue the mobile operator (Safaricom).

“When I made my speech earlier, we did not have a deal. When I left Nairobi this morning, I had an assignment from the people of Kenya to go back with a licence. It was my first assignment (as President).

“In the better part of the morning, I engaged a very difficult person. The people of Ethiopia are lucky. You have a genius for a leader. I know that I try. I am good but he is better. On my behalf, I want to thank the PM for saving my job,” Ruto stated as the delegates burst into laughter.

The President emphasized the significance of the telecom agreement, pointing out that it would be beneficial for both nations.

He continued by saying that collaboration between the two countries would boost the economy and aid Ethiopia in closing the gap in mobile transactions.

For his part, PM Abiy stated that his administration intended to increase business relationships with the Ruto administration.

On Thursday, October 6, Ruto left for Ethiopia to attend the formal launch of Safaricom.
