President William Ruto’s economic adviser, David Ndii, dashes hopes of Kenya’s economy recovery, likening it to a “Patient in ICU”.

In response to a concerned Kenyan on the state of economic recovery, Ndii projected the economy to continue to worsen.

He likened the state of Kenya’s economy to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patient. 

“Mkuu!! any hope mambo itakua sawa by mid next year! Or bado Machozi tu?” @DauMshika inquired from Ndii

“You are asking when a patient in ICU will go home? I don’t think you want my honest opinion,” Ndii replied to a tweed asking whether everything would normalize by next year.

According to Ndii, however, the economy is nowhere near recovery and could reach Ghana’s economic state. 

Remarks by Ruto’s economic adviser come as the shilling continued to dwindle against the US dollar, trading at KSh 150.0735.

Meanwhile, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) reported a growth in the economy of 5.4% in the second quarter of 2023. 

The report showed the growth was supported by the financial sector, which grew at 13.5%, and the turnaround in agriculture at 7.7%.
