Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has vowed to stick to his guns and carry out what is best for everyone, asking cartels, powerful individuals, and other voices of impunity to find for another county to take over.
There are some things we cannot compromise on…it is about taking a stand, sticking to it, and showing leadership, Mr. Sakaja said in his Tuesday evening interview on Royal Media Services, appearing to respond to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ominous warning that he should slow down on implementing bylaws that might persecute the Mt. Kenya community.
Sakaja said “there is a deep state in terms of statecraft…There are few people who make certain decisions…few individuals who have great influence over billions in resources…but state capture can never be louder than the voice of the people. We have the rule of law”.

Sakaja’s remarks come after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for allegedly persecuting business people from Mt Kenya.
“We do not want his high speed (in making decisions) and I have summoned him for a sitting…It is a no for any of his decisions that might have a negative effect on our people,” he said.
DP Gachagua added: “We made you governor and we are vigilant on our interests” and “we must get involved in those decisions that have an effect on our people”.
Sakaja had on November 23, while being interviewed on Inooro TV acknowledged the contribution of Mt Kenya voters in his win.
“My major competitor (Polycarp Igathe, Jubilee) was from your region…your own son. But you denied him your votes, blinded yourself to the tribal consideration, and chose me,” he said.
Sakaja was declared the winner after he garnered 699,392 votes against Igathe’s 573,518 votes.
Mr. Gachagua said he will ensure that “Sakaja who is a good youth…slows his pace and gets on a roundtable to adopt a consensus position on how to treat out business people”.
