The explosion occurred at around 6:40 PM at the Jakkey Hotel located in the Kona B area of Mandera town.
The injured were rushed to the Mandera Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention following the explosion.
In a statement via X, Mandera East Member of Parliament Hussein Weytan said the tragic incident has traumatized the community.
Weytan sent heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the attack and wished the injured a quick recovery.
“My heartfelt sympathies go out to all those affected. At this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with the injured, who are currently receiving care at the Mandera County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
“I wish them a full and speedy recovery, and I commend the medical team who are working tirelessly to provide them with the treatment they need,” he stated.
The Mandera East MP also called on authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.

“I also call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of this explosion to ensure the safety and security of all our citizens.
“Let us come together in unity and compassion as we support one another through this moment of hardship. Mandera is strong, and together, we will overcome,” Weytan added.
A multi-agency security operation has since been launched in the area to pursue suspects and secure the scene.
The explosion comes months after two people were killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Ijara, Garissa County.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, July 14, claimed the lives of Mohamed Shabel Bashir and Abdikadir Muhumed Salat.
“I am deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning in Bodhai, Madah Adon, where a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) attack claimed the lives of Mohamed Shabel Bashir and Abdikadir Muhumed Salat,” MP Abdi Ali Abdi said.
Abdi condemned the attack and highlighted the ongoing threat posed by militant violence in the region.
“This senseless act of violence is a painful reminder of the persistent threats facing our communities and underscores the urgent need to safeguard the lives of our citizens,” he added.
