Police reservist in Meru County gunned down after leading gang in a shootout against police.
According to reports, the gang is said to have shot at the police who were responding to gunshots that were fired 500 metres from the Muthara Police Station.
The reports added that the police reservist and the gang were dressed in paramilitary attire and wielded military-grade rifles.
However, the police managed to gun him down recovering a G3 rifle after the reservist and his accomplices shot at them.
Six other members of the gang managed to escape. The police officers would then recover a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
The gunning down of the NPR prompted the officers to raid his home in the Bula area of Isiolo County.
According to a follow-up police report, law enforcement authorities further recovered three more guns, an AK47, 1 home riffle, and another homemade pistol.

Other police kits recovered included; assorted police boots, military jungle uniforms, and two pairs of tactical vests.
Body armour, pull-throughs, a portable two-way radio and 30 rounds of ammunition were also among other items recovered from the police reservist’s home.
However, the six other gang members are still at large. The cause of the earlier shooting is also yet to be determined.
This comes even as the national government continues to stage Operation Linda Uhalifu in the North Rift aimed at clamping down on banditry in the troubled region.
