Six-year-old child killed with twin badly injured in a house at police quarters in Kayole

Six-year-old child killed with twin badly injured in a house at police quarters in Kayole. 

According to a police report, the deceased’s twin sister suffered serious burn injuries on Monday, December 25, and is being treated at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

The child is said to belong to a police officer at Kayole Sub-County Police Headquarters in Nairobi.

In a statement on Monday, December 25, the National Police Service (NPS) said the incident occurred when the officer, Police Constable Dishon Moenga, was on duty.

Moenga’s wife, also a police officer, and their daughter were injured during the tragic incident.

Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service, Douglas Kanja, visited the family to condole with them for the loss of their child.

that burnt their house at Kayole Sub-County Police Headquarters on the night of December 24, 2023, while the Officer was on duty,” NPS said.

Kanja also visited the Officer’s wife, Police Constable Yuniah Kemunto at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is admitted together with her daughter.

A police officer who had responded to the fire was also injured in the Monday incident.

The officer received 24 percent burns, according to the police report, and was referred to KNH after first aid.

The fire was put out by officers from Kayole police station in conjunction with the Nairobi County Fire Brigade. 

The cause of the Monday fire that also decimated property of unknown value remains unclear and is under investigation. 

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
