Sudi shares podium with Raila; asks exile Ex-IEBC commissioner Irene Masit to return home

MP Oscar Sudi on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, met Raila Odinga in Elgeyo Marakwet during a burial of ex-IEBC commissioner Irene Masit's father

MP Oscar Sudi on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, met Raila Odinga in Elgeyo Marakwet during a burial of ex-IEBC commissioner Irene Masit’s father.

The burial ceremony was for Mzee Masit Chirchir, who is the father of Irene Masit, a former commissioner in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“With former Prime Minister and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga at the burial ceremony of Mzee Masit Chirchir (Chumyot). Mzee Masit was an industrious and successful farmer who has left an indelible legacy,” Sudi stated in a post on his Instagram page.

Irene Masit was one of the commissioners at the IEBC who rejected the 2022 presidential poll results, stating that the process was opaque. The other three were Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyangaya.

In a seemingly cordial interaction, Raila sat side-by-side with Sudi, occasionally cracking in bursts of laughter with the Kapseret MP, who only two years ago was suspected by police to have been involved in an incident where a chopper carrying the ODM supremo, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, was stoned.

The incident happened after Raila attended the funeral of the late Mzee Jackson Kibor, chairman of the famed ‘Men’s Conference’, in his Soy home in Eldoret in April 2022.

Speaking at the burial Oscar Sudi asked former IEBC commissioner Irene Masit to return home immediately.

He said Irene played her role during the last election and since the elections are over she should return home.

“We are asking Irene Masit to take her belongings and return home immediately,” Sudi said.

Sudi said there was nothing wrong with what Irene did and that politics should not get personal.

The MP said Irene worked closely with Raila Odinga and the ODM chief was now working with Ruto for the unity of the country, so she should just come back home.

Sudi said he considers himself a son of Odinga who had played a great role in the unity and development of the country.

“There comes a time when Kenya is bigger than everyone and Odinga has always proved that,” Sudi said.

He said the recent deal between Raila Odinga and President William Ruto was proof that the two leaders valued the country.

“What the two leaders did recently was for the sake of the country and they talked as two people with wisdom and agreed on a broad-based government to save the country,” Sudi said.

Sudi said he has been friends with Odinga for more than 17 years and emphasised that leaders should know that politics is not enmity.
