Ten Hag publicly criticizes Ronaldo for a walk-out
Ten Hag publicly criticizes Cristiano Ronaldo for a pre-season walk-out during the Sunday game against Rayo Vallecano.
Cristiano Ronaldo has come under fire from Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for leaving Old Trafford before the end of Sunday’s friendly match against Rayo Vallecano.
Ronaldo played the opening 45 minutes against the Spanish team in his first outing of the Ten Hag era.
The 37-year-old was seen leaving the stadium with defender Diogo Dalot, who did not play at all in the match, after deciding not to stay for the second half.
Ten Hag criticizes Ronaldo
Reacting to Ronaldo’s early exit, Ten Hag told Viaplay in Dutch that it is “unacceptable” for “anyone” to leave a match early.
He added: “I tell them that we’re a team and you’re expected to stay until the end.”
Ronaldo has informed United that he wants to quit the team this summer in order to pursue his dream of playing in the Champions League.
But no potential buyer has yet materialized.
Ronaldo might play against Brighton in United’s Premier League debut on Sunday at Old Trafford.
However, Anthony Martial, who scored three goals during United’s preseason schedule, is more likely to start.
Martial is anticipated to start in front of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford as the center of United’s assault.
Sancho and Rashford both had productive preseasons, scoring three goals each.
