Ronaldo set for a humiliating stint on bench with Ten Hag said to be angered by his actions
Ronaldo set for a humiliating stint on the bench during the opening game against Brighton with Ten Hag said to be angered by his actions
Erik ten Hag, the new manager of Manchester United, has already had to deal with a number of issues at the club, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who informed him he intended to depart during current transfer window.
And now, following his shenanigans this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo is supposedly going to start the season on the bench.
There has been a lot of conjecture about the Portuguese superstar amid rumours that he wants to leave.
After a dismal season in 2017, the 37-year-old has been anxious to leave Manchester United during the current transfer window.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has been all over Europe in search of a suitor, stopping at Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
There have been no buyers, though, and the Portugal international looks set to return to proceedings at United.
Ronaldo set for a humiliating stint on the bench
However, after missing most of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season drills and preparations, Ronaldo is woefully behind on match fitness.
He played just 45 minutes of action this summer – a poor cameo against Rayo Vallecano last Sunday.
It means that Ten Hag will start the talismanic forward on the bench when the Red Devils take on Brighton this weekend, report The Sun.
Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been the preferred trio up front for United during pre-season and it is highly likely that they will play on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Ten Hang does not take kindly to players who are deemed to not have maximum commitment.
As such, a report claims Ten Hag will fire out a humiliating snub to Ronaldo against Brighton on Sunday.
The Sun claims Ten Hag will fire out a message to Ronaldo by leaving him on the bench in the game.
They claim Ten Hag has been left angered by Ronaldo’s actions this summer.
And that comes amid claims he was uncontactable for three weeks during his push to leave Old Trafford.
Rather than let him walk straight back into the side, Ten Hag will send out a message by sticking Ronaldo among his substitutes.
Furthermore, the general feeling is that Ronaldo will not have the same match sharpness as his teammates, who all went on tour.
However, the Portuguese superstar will unlikely take kindly to his snub.
He has not reacted well to being benched in the past after blowing his top at Ralf Rangnick for sidelining him against Manchester City.
And he was less than pleased after being subbed off against Rayo at the weekend after a tense moment between him and Ten Hag was spotted.
Ronaldo was the only player to be hooked at half-time.
