Ten Hag tells Man United’s board to sign a new forward before the summer transfer window closes with Antony’s representatives in Manchester for talks.

Erik ten Hag contends that if Manchester United wants to compete next season, they must add another forward before the transfer window closes.

Manchester United have been linked with a £68 million attack on his former team Ajax to acquire winger Antony, and it’s believed that Junior Pedroso, one of the Brazilian’s representatives, was in Manchester on Thursday for negotiations.

Asked about the importance of signing another forward, Ten Hag said: ‘I think it’s vital if you want to get success, the season is really long.

‘That is a reason, but also the number of games. You need more options in offence. But we also have still time to fill that in.

‘We signed (Christian) Eriksen for the midfield, we are really happy with that. I am really happy with the performance of the midfield and offence at this moment.

‘But I also know this season, a lot of games, World Cup, so we need more options.

‘We have a good team, we need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season.’

Ten Hag has been relying on Anthony Martial on tour in the continued absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite his troubles at the club in recent seasons, which included a loan spell at Sevilla last season, Martial will continue to lead the line for the time being.

And after making an impression on the club’s tour of Thailand and Australia, he has already been informed that he will be staying.

The 26-year-old has made good connections with players like Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag also praised the contribution of Fred who weighed in with a sensational chip in the 4-0 win over Liverpool in Bangkok.

‘At the moment, he is playing in the role as connecter, defending to offence,’ added the United boss.

‘He is playing the role quite well. I am satisfied with his performance, and with his improvement.

‘I think he can even be better. I will support him in that. He also brings energy in the team through his attitude.’
