Sabina Chege downplays impact of demonstration against femicide cases in Kenya urging the girls to work hard.

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has called on girls and women to work hard and look for their own money to avoid being victims of femicide.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Sabina said that women and girls should be urged to start their lives on their own terms and not rely on men to come to their rescue.

In particular, she made the point that mentoring young women to see that they cannot start from the top is a good place to start in her efforts to lower the rate of femicide in Kenya.

While urging women to work hard for their own money, Sabina stated that additional forums and counseling services should be established to educate women and lessen the recent spike in femicide.

“Counselling, mentorship and girls accepting that you can’t start from the top is a start to reducing femicide cases. What comes easy goes easy. Girls need to know how to work hard. There is no free money in this world. There is nothing that comes for free, the only thing that is free is air and it is given by God,” she stated.

“Wake up work hard, if you are in school complete your school look for a job, don’t expect that men will be giving you money, it will not happen,” she added.

Sabina’s remarks come amid the spate of killings of women and girls.

On Saturday, a section of human rights activists, women representatives, men and women held marches across different parts of the country to protest after the recent macabre killings of more than 16 women within a month.
