The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested three Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) employees in connection with bribery.

In a statement on Friday, September 5, EACC said the three suspects demanded money from clients as inducements to provide electricity-related services.

“The suspects, Mr. Jeremiah Onchuru Omwenga, Mr. Jeremiah Omondi Masiwa, and Mr. John Mutuku Mutua were arrested in separate operations for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes as inducements to provide services,” EACC stated.

The commission said that Omwenga, who is an accountant stationed at Electricity House, solicited a bribe of Ksh200,000 to alter a disputed electricity bill of Ksh346,000.

Following a complaint, EACC detectives mounted an operation that led to his arrest while receiving the money.

In a separate incident at Woodley Estate, Nairobi, EACC officers arrested Masiwa and Mutua while receiving a bribe of Ksh10,000 from a resident in exchange for the irregular reconnection of the electricity supply.

The three suspects were processed at the Integrity Centre Police Station before being released on a Ksh50,000 bond each, pending the conclusion of investigations.

This comes weeks after EACC officers arrested a police officer for soliciting a bribe in a defilement case.

Philip Ochieng Adongo, who is an officer stationed at Sarangombe Police Post, allegedly demanded Ksh 4,000 from the complainant as a bribe to arrest a suspect accused of defiling the complainant’s daughter.

“It is alleged that PC Adongo demanded Kes 4,000 from a complainant as an inducement to arrest a suspect accused of defiling the complainant’s daughter, a matter that had earlier been formally reported at Sarangombe Police Post under OB No. 16/18/07/2025,” the commission stated.

EACC officers conducted an operation leading to the arrest of Adongo and a civilian identified as George Otieno Oywer, who received the bribe from the complainant on behalf of the officer.
