Three US philanthropists perished in a road accident on Thursday near the Ewaso-Nyiro airstrip on the Narok-Maasai Mara road.

The trio were members of a Narok-based Baptist Church and also operated a Child Refuge Center in the country.

According to reports, the three who have been in Narok West running nine other centres in the country were driving from Narok town westward to Mara when a head-on collision involving their personal pick-up truck and a trailer truck occurred.

The trailer made a wrong move while attempting to overtake the missionaries’ pickup truck resulting in a head-on collision with the three dying on the spot.

In a police report from the County Commissioner’s office the trio identified as Martin David Mueller, and Joy Marie Mueller both 61 years old, and Julie Esther Holman 33 years old ran about nine refuge centers in the country.

“As a Maasai community we have been dealt a blow because this is always a reliable source for finances for those who are not able to fund themselves,” said a beneficiary of the projects run by the missionaries.

Among the projects run by the three US  philanthropists include funding learning for students in secondary schools and the construction of boreholes within Narok County.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were flown to a Nairobi hospital.
