Uhuru caught off guard after ousting of Kioni and Murathe from Jubilee; Sources

Jubilee suspends secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and vice chairman David Murathe; announcement made by Nelson Dzuya

Jubilee suspends secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and vice chairman David Murathe; announcement made by Nelson Dzuya.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was apparently unaware of the plans to remove Jubilee party vice chairman David Murathe and secretary general Jeremiah Kioni.

A source close to the troubled SG claimed that Uhuru had not yet been informed of the changes being pushed by the faction that had earlier this week visited President William Ruto at the State House.

The source acknowledged that plans had been initiated by the team now allied to Ruto.

However, it was noted that the two-party officials could not be removed from office without the ratification of the former Head of State.

“There are plans but the two have not yet been removed from office. It is only the party leader who can authorize the removal of the officials from office,” the source stated.

According to the Kioni’s team, Ruto was the orchestrator of the party’s woes following the leaders’ visit to State House on February 8.

The source alleged that plans were to destabilize the Azimio la Umoja faction as they drum up their anti-Ruto rallies across the country.

In the changes, Kioni was replaced with EALA MP Kanini Kega.

Other members suspended from the party include Kagwe Gichohi, the National Treasurer, and David Murathe, the National vice Chairperson.

Jubilee further announced the replacement of the suspended members appointing Kanini Kega as secretary General, Rachel Nyamai as the National treasurer, and Adan Keynan as the National Vice Chairperson.

The changes were made by Jubilee Chairman, Nelson Dzuya at the Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting in Nakuru.

Moreover, the Jubilee National Executive Council (NEC) announced that they had commenced a process to exit the Azimio coalition.
