Uhuru Kenyatta allies exploring option for another party amid onslaught on Jubilee party by William Ruto administration

Uhuru Kenyatta allies exploring option for another party amid onslaught on Jubilee party by William Ruto administration.

The allies of former president Uhuru Kenyatta are plotting to take over a new political organization with origins in the Mt. Kenya region.

According to reports, the strategy to acquire a new political party is part of the options Uhuru’s confidants are exploring in case they lose the fight for Jubilee.

The battle for the former ruling party has landed at the High Court after Uhuru’s men filed an application to block their removal from office.

The Political Parties Dispute Resolution Tribunal had ruled that embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Vice Chairperson David Murathe and Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi were legally kicked out.

The three were key figures in President Ruto’s expulsion from Jubilee in February 2022 and are among Uhuru’s closest confidants.

The legal ambiguity surrounding the Jubilee leadership is forcing Uhuru’s strategists to devise a different plan to keep him involved in politics.

At least two Mt. Kenya-centric parties are claimed to have been identified by the confidants, who are expected to choose one of them for rebranding in the upcoming months.

After that, the party would go through the legal procedures to formally install Uhuru as party head.

“It is a plan B because it appears that President Ruto is determined to take over Jubilee and we may or not succeed. So if we fail in the courts we must rebrand another party,” the former MP said.

The ex-lawmaker was categorical that they have already earmarked parties for negotiations.

“We have two political parties that we are considering in our plans but those details will come to the fore at a later date, currently we are laying the ground,” he said.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to believe that he needs a political party to enhance his political participation and have a voice in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Jubilee is an anchor member of Azimio with Uhuru serving as the chairperson of the coalition’s council, the top decision-making organ of the outfit.

The rebels allied to Ruto had kicked Uhuru out and replaced him with nominated MP Sabina Chege as the acting party leader.

President William Ruto’s allies have trained their guns on Uhuru following the recent escalation of protests accusing him of facilitating the anti-government demonstrations.
