Uhuru fights back after Kanini Kega suspended Jubilee NDC, says meeting still on

Uhuru-allied Jubilee party leaders maintain National Delegates Conference (NDC) is still on despite Kanini Kega's notice
Uhuru-allied Jubilee party leaders maintain National Delegates Conference (NDC) is still on despite Kanini Kega’s notice.
Leaders of the Jubilee party who are close to former president Uhuru Kenyatta have insisted that the National Delegates Conference (NDC) will go on as scheduled.
Jeremiah Kioni, the Parry secretary-general who is battling EALA MP Kanini Kega for the job and held a meeting to organize for the event, advised its members to disregard the claims of cancellation.
Furthermore, Kioni questioned individuals funding the meetings held by Kanini Kega and other jubilee members outside the party headquarters in Kileleshwa.
“We are amazed at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) for entertaining this drama. Those people have not been gazetted and therefore have no power,” Kioni lamented.
The meeting which brought together county chairpersons was chaired by Kioni and attended by Vice chair David Murathe.
“I will be chairing the meeting and he (Uhuru) will only be coming to endorse what we have agreed on,” said Kioni.
The party, he argued, belongs to the people hence the NDC will proceed regardless of a suit seeking to stop it.
“This is not a matter of Uhuru Kenyatta, it is the members and that is why we are saying let us fight for it,” he added.
Murathe on his part told candidates eyeing any seats in the party to attend the Bomas meeting.
According to Murathe, the ongoing war was not between Kioni and Kega. He hinted that President William Ruto was behind the wrangles adding that he was bitter for being kicked out of Jubilee.
“We are going on with the meeting as announced by our party leader. You (Kanini faction) cannot impose yourself by holding conferences in the streets and under trees,” Murathe added.

Kioni is fighting for survival in the once vibrant party following the emergence of a splinter group that seeks to oust him.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege has been named the party leader to replace Uhuru.
The NDC, as per the notice dated April 30, is slated for May 22.
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a 21-day notice to the party members of the special meeting to be held at the Bomas.
The meet, he said, is meant to formulate new policies, receive a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC), and consider and approve any other arising matters.
A faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega through a paid advertisement Wednesday has, however, canceled the delegates’ forum.
The troubles facing the party have intensified with a former nominated MP Hassan Osman also moving to court to stop the NDC terming it illegal.
Uhuru has been cited in court documents for allegedly contravening the Constitution.
