Former President Uhuru Kenyatta had joined the mourner at a funeral before leaving shortly after before DP Gachagua arrived.

Though briefly, Uhuru Kenyatta was among the mourners gracing the funeral of King’ori Mwangi at the Ndugamano grounds in Tetu on Saturday, February 17.

Uhuru arrived at the venue and joined mourners before leaving shortly after.

Uhuru described Mwangi as a great son of the soil who was very dedicated to the service.

“It isn’t only you as the family who have lost a father, a brother or an uncle, but Kenya also has lost one of its great sons. And we ask that the Lord rests this great and powerful soul in eternal peace and may He the family comfort,” said Kenyatta.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was on his way from Kirinyaga found the former head of state having left.

Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandetto revealed that Uhuru sought to be excused as he was headed to another funeral, but left his apologies to the deputy president.

“The former president was here and we alerted him you (Gachagua) were on your way but you were engaged somewhere but passed your message to him. He also asked that we give you his apologies because he had wanted to stay but he had to go and condole with another family,” said Wandetto.

Mwangi, a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, died on February 11 while on treatment.

King’ori served as a Provincial Police officer in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Western regions and as the Director of Operations at police headquarters.
