Belgut MP Nelson Koech has said former President Uhuru Kenyatta is yet to come to terms with President William Ruto’s victory in the 2022 general elections.
Speaking on Monday, April 28, Koech said Uhuru remains bitter about Ruto’s presidency, suggesting that he would not be president if it were up to Uhuru to decide.
“In my view, Uhuru Kenyatta has never recovered from William Ruto’s win; he is still very upset with the fact that Ruto is president. If it were for Uhuru to decide whether Ruto should continue being the president, he would probably collapse this country just for the sake of Ruto going down,” he stated.
Koech also dismissed Uhuru’s recent calls urging the youth to stand up for themselves, questioning the former president’s track record during his own time in power.
“This is not the first time Uhuru is urging the youth to stand up for themselves. He actually did it immediately after the GenZ protests, and it is not genuine because as a former head of state we should evaluate and look at his past; did he give space to the young people to thrive during his tenure? He did not,” he added.
This comes barely a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen hit out at Uhuru Kenyatta over his constant calls to the youth to rise up for better governance.
While speaking in Machakos, he accused Uhuru of inciting the youth for selfish gains, arguing that the former president was not best placed to lecture others on governance.

Murkomen stated that Uhuru’s tenure as president was not the best for him to feel he is qualified and clean to advise on matters of governance.
“He was the president the other day; the ink he used to sign decisions with has not even dried. Suddenly has become very clever and an angel. He is now the one to lecture us and ask the youth to demonstrate, yet he was the president just recently.
“This exploitation of our young people is not right. I want to ask leaders across the political divide: this is not an issue of political gain, but an issue we must all act responsibly,” he said.
At every opportunity, Uhuru has called on the young generation to challenge the political status quo and pursue change.
According to the former president, the youth have great numbers that they could leverage in fighting for good leadership.
“You have the numbers, you have the time and you have the energy to get involved and stay involved in governance discussions until you effect the changes you want to see,” Uhuru said while delivering a keynote speech at Makerere University.
