President William Ruto has detailed his hand in the peacemaking assignments his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta has been charged in the East African region.
The president tried to show how far Kenya had come in terms of democracy while addressing a conference at the US-Africa 2022 Summit in Washington, D.C.
Despite being political opponents in the lead-up to the presidential election on August 9, Ruto appeared to be in awe of Uhuru representing him in the effort to bring about peace in Eastern DRC.
Ruto also praised Raila Odinga for accepting the offer to attend the meeting with him despite being his longtime rival in politics.

“Although he did not support me, my predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta is representing me in the East African Community (EAC) at the talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia. That is the kind of democracy we are developing,” he said.
“I’m the fifth democratically elected and my competitor who ran against me two months ago is in this meeting, to demonstrate that we are a democratic country,” he added.
During his inauguration in September this year, Ruto called on Uhuru to continue with the peace efforts in the Eastern DRC and Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
