Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire for the 15th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa.

In an update on X on Thursday, October 24, Uhuru said the retreat is meant to address conflicts across Africa.

“The retreat convened by the African Union (AU) Commission will focus on the Impact and Sustainability of AU Preventive Diplomacy and Mediation in addressing conflicts across the continent,” his statement read.

Uhuru serves as the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Peace Process aimed at restoring stability in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). 

His role involves overseeing negotiations among various stakeholders, including the Congolese government and armed groups, to address ongoing conflicts and humanitarian issues.

For instance, Uhuru has been instrumental in the resumption of peace talks, focusing on reducing hostilities between the DRC and Rwanda, while also addressing internal conflicts within the DRC.

“Steady processes being made including delivery of humanitarian assistance to the affected population and further deployments to secure key areas and towns,” he said. 

He emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue and political leadership to ensure sustainable peace.

Notably, Uhuru has been actively engaging with regional leaders to bolster cooperation in achieving these goals.
