Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies are now eyeing ejecting Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege from their nominated positions

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies are now eyeing ejecting Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege from their nominated positions.

Just a day after Azimio succeeded in ejecting nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege as the deputy minority whip in the National Assembly, the embattled party leadership now wants to revoke her nomination together with EALA counterpart Kanini Kega.

Following their meeting on Thursday, the Jubilee NEC directed the party’s parliamentary leadership to work with its friends in Azimio to remove MPs who support President William Ruto from committee chairmanship.

During the NEC, which Uhuru addressed on a phone call, the Jubilee party indicated that it was important to have members committed to the party.

“Once we are properly in office by the court, the first agenda business will be to denominate Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega. Kega’s position at EALA was from Jubilee,” Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe noted.

In order to bring down the party from within, some of the Kenya Kwanza government’s members have been offered jobs, according to Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni during the NEC.

After the fallout from Uhuru’s election setback, the Kega-Chege faction has been attempting to seize control of the party, but the court has put a hold on the takeover.

While the Kega faction wishes to break away from the opposition alliance, Kioni insists that they are still in Azimio.

Leading figures in the Kega faction have pledged allegiance to Kenya Kwanza, helping the ruling coalition achieve its legislative agenda.

The latest move is likely to bring a new round of legal suits, further plunging the party into rivalry.

Sabina Chege was dewhipped after Azimio threatened to pull out of the bipartisan talks forcing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to announce the changes.

Sabina Chege had moved to court to halt the Azimio side from kicking her out as the deputy minority whip.
