Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga among top officials to attend the burial ceremony of former Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha.

Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, and other top politicians are also expected at the burial but the State House has not confirmed if President William Ruto will travel for the burial.

An official itinerary for the president released on Friday shows he will be in Naivasha on Saturday for the Ordinary Session of the Nationa and County Government’s Coordinating Summit ahead of a church service in Nakuru on Sunday.

Also in attendance at the burial at Umiru village, Gem Sub-County in Siaya County will be Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, Charity Ngilu of Narc-K, Martha Karua of Narc and the Kenyatta regime Cabinet.

The burial of the former Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha, comes against the backdrop of heightened political activities, all leading to serious tension in the country.

Even though Professor Magoha’s family on Friday, February 10, asked mourners to respect the deceased and his family, analysts expected the handshake brothers and President Ruto to collide.

“We have heard rumours that the President will attend as well as other dignitaries.

“But while they are allowed to say whatever they want, we do not expect politics to overtake the funeral service,” Prof Magoha’s elder brother John Obare pleaded.

“Raila is a hero in this region but we all know Prof was not a politician and, therefore, we expect all politicians to behave decently for the sake of my brother,” Magoha’s brother, Obare requested.

Ruto who took over from Kenyatta after the August 9 polls has been on a collision course with his predecessor lately over tax issues.

The raging tax debate has seen Raila accuse Ruto of targetting the Kenyatta family unfairly raising high political stakes if the three attend Magoha’s burial in Siaya.

Magoha’s body was airlifted by a military chopper to his home in Gem on Friday.

On Thursday, a requiem mass for Magoha was held at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands Nairobi, a day after Nigerian rituals were performed during a procession of his body in Nairobi led by his widow Barbara.
