Uhuru team hints at impeachment motion against William Ruto

Uhuru team threatens William Ruto with an impeachment motion over the high cost of living in the country

Uhuru team threatens William Ruto with an impeachment motion over the high cost of living in the country.

On Saturday, June 17, embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni threatened to impeach President William Ruto before the end of his five-year term if he kept raising taxes on Kenyans.

Speaking to the media in Kiambu County, Kioni said that the high cost of living in Kenya was already a problem for people there and that the planned Finance Bill 2023 will only make things worse.

The former lawmaker, an ally of Uhuru Kenyatta claimed that numerous businesses, particularly those in the Mt. Kenya region, were impacted by the region’s high and steadily rising cost of living.

“The cost of living is unbearable. The taxation measures that will be put in place through the Finance Bill hurt most businesses in Mount Kenya.

“We are seeing the desperation level among Kenyans and the bill is only going to make things worse,” Kioni stated.

The SG warned that if the president and his deputy did not put in place measures to cushion Kenyans from the high cost of living, he risked being impeached by Kenyans.

“If this government is not serving us, we can be able to bring it to an end before the end of the five-year term that they think they have to serve.

“It is not mandatory that they finish the term. We can make your stay shorter if you are not useful to Kenyans,” added Kioni.

His sentiments were echoed by other leaders drawn from the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party who decried a high cost of living.

“The cost of living is unbearable, especially for women of the Mt Kenya region. We are getting to a place where we will have to tell this government that enough is enough. Our children have been branded names yet they are the same children the government called hustlers and promised a good living.

“We have not seen this government do anything for our youth except mobilizing them to steal sheep at the Northlands farm. Shame on them,” a member of Jubilee stated.

Some Jubilee party members had earlier on June 8 revealed plans to introduce a Bill that would establish grounds for impeaching President William Ruto.

While making the announcement, they highlighted that Ruto’s meddling in Jubilee Party operations was the inspiration for the measure and that it was the only option to restore order to the party.

According to the 2010 Constitution, a president may be impeached for violating the Constitution, treason, bribery, or other serious offenses.
