Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula engaged in a veiled attack on Saturday over the state of affairs in the country as they shared a podium in Nairobi.
The two who spoke during the Episcopal ordination of Simon Peter Kamomoe and Wallace Nganga as Auxiliary Bishops of Nairobi traded barbs, with the former Head of State calling on government leaders to shun the know-it-all attitude and instead listen to citizens.
“We have for too long sometimes taken leadership to mean loading your capacity over everybody else. But as we have been reminded today, the job of a shepherd is not to direct but to guide and lead and bring everybody along with you,” Kenyatta said.
He urged leaders to desist from betraying the very people on whose shoulders they rode to public office and instead exercise cohesiveness rather than embracing a divisive approach in leadership.
Kenyatta would however be countered by Wetangula who in a veiled message urged leaders to offer solutions instead of constant criticism.

”I want to urge the church to pray for all Kenyans so that when we have problems we don’t look for who to blame but instead look for solutions to those problems,” said Wetangula.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta state has been critical of the government since leaving office though not so openly, expressing frustration over some government decisions.
President William Ruto recently told off Kenyatta saying he squandered his time with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) the former Head of State co-championed with Opposition Leader Raila Odinga whom he unsuccessfully backed for the presidency.
”They feel like crying because they can see that the affordable housing project Is possible,” Ruto told a Parliamentary Group of the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance on February 19.
