UK issues travel advisory against Kenya warns its citizens of terror threats in five areas in the country.

The government of the United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory on Kenya, with its residents warned against visiting five areas in Kenya.

In an alert sent out on Friday, March 5, the UK noted that the advisory was issued as a cautionary for insecurity and terror-related activities.

The areas highlighted were the Kenya-Somalia border, Eastern Garissa, Mandera, Lamu County and Tana River.

Therefore, UK residents in Kenya were advised against non-essential travel to the five areas highlighted in the advisory.

“FCDO advises against all but essential travel to areas within 60km of Kenya’s border with Somalia. FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to areas of Tana River County north of the Tana River, up to 20km northwest of the A3.

“FCDO advises against all but essential travel to within 15km of the coast between the Tana River and the Galana (Athi-Galana-Sabaki) River,” read the advisory in part.

In Lamu County, the UK government excluded Lamu Island and Manda Island.

The travel advisory comes after another warning by the Australian government.

The Australian government warned travelers visiting Kenya to travel with extreme caution due to fears about an increase in terrorism.

Australians were also warned of the high rate of violent crimes in Kenya’s heavily populated areas, including Nairobi.

“We continue to advise exercising a high degree of caution overall due to the threat of terrorism and violent crime,” the statement read in part.

“Terrorists continue to maintain a strong interest in attacking foreigners in Nairobi and other major population centres in Kenya.”
