Universities Fund issues directive to students who missed scholarships
Universities Fund has issued an urgent directive to students who may have missed out on scholarship opportunities due to application errors or incomplete information.
In a notice shared on Saturday, September 6, the agency called on first-time applicants to rectify their details to ensure they don’t miss out on funding opportunities for the current academic year.
“If you are a first-time applicant and you initially applied as self-sponsored, transferred institutions after applying, or had your institution captured incorrectly at the time of application, visit www.hef.co.ke now and update your details to reflect the correct institution/university,” the notice read.
The agency has set September 14, 2025, as the application deadline for students to complete their updates and submit fresh applications for scholarship consideration.
The notice targets explicitly three categories of students: those initially registered as self-sponsored students, students who transferred to different institutions after their initial application, and applicants whose institutional details were incorrectly captured during the original application process.
The Universities Fund emphasized that “students who hadn’t applied for a scholarship can now apply,” indicating that the window remains open for new applicants.

Last week, the government announced an extension of application deadlines for the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Universities Fund to accommodate first-year students.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba emphasized that this measure ensures no student is excluded from accessing higher education funding.
The CS revealed that approximately Ksh23 billion has been allocated and distributed to over 802,000 students nationwide.
He encouraged all students to regularly monitor their Higher Education Funding portals to verify their disbursement status and ensure their applications are being processed correctly.
At the beginning of this month, the agency issued similar guidance to students, indicating ongoing efforts to streamline the application process and address technical challenges that may have prevented eligible students from accessing funding opportunities during the initial application period.
