Seven arrested after university student dies following brutal beating at a restaurant in Homa Bay.
Police in Homabay County on Friday arrested seven employees of a local restaurant in connection with the death of a fourth-year student from Tom Mboya University.
The seven individuals; Jacob Okeyo Omollo, Baraka Odhiambo Jude, Monica Atieno, David Ochieng, Arnoder Atieno, Kennedy Ouma Otieno and Pamela Onyango Otieno, were apprehended by police after the victim, Paul Sunday, was found stripped naked, beaten and bound within Dalawa Hotel and Restaurant.
Sunday later, the university student succumbed to the injuries at Homabay County Referral Hospital.
Police got wind of the situation after a Homabay County Enforcement Officer reported the student’s predicament shortly after visiting the establishment.
“Please be informed that a report was received from an Enforcement Officer of Homabay County that today at around 1330 hrs he visited Dalawa Hotel and Restaurant which is within Homabay township and found some commotion there,” a police report documenting the incident reads.

“He further reported that he found one student of Tom Mboya University namely Paul Sunday, a fourth-year student, being naked and tied with ropes in the hands and legs inside the counter of the said facility.
Homabay police officers went to the scene and established that the said student was really tied with ropes as reported and tied in the metal bars of the said counter door.”
The victim, police say, was naked and had multiple injuries all over his body.”He was bleeding profusely; they rescued and rushed him to Homabay County Referral Hospital where he succumbed due to the injuries,” the police report adds.
“The body was processed by CSI officers and the same preserved in the said hospital morgue pending autopsy.”
The seven suspects remain in custody pending arraignment on Monday, as investigations into the incident continue.
