On Monday, July 21, the university flagged as fake a social media post from an unverified account claiming that both government- and self-sponsored students could access their admission letters via the university’s student portal.
The fake letter had claimed that the incoming students could simply use their KCSE index numbers to download the letter.
To ensure that students receive legitimate information on the university’s admission, UoN, in a statement on Monday, July 21, said that learners should ensure that they visit its official Facebook page, the verified University’s X (Twitter) page, or via SMS.
According to the University, students under the Government-sponsored (Module 1) category should visit the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) website to source their admission details.
On the other hand Self self-sponsored students (Module 2) are required to contact the university either through its official email or phone number, for admission details, if they failed to receive an SMS from the university.

UON has encouraged students to ensure that they remain alert so as to avoid missing important updates on admission, which will be dispensed through SMS.
“Congratulations once again on your admission to the University of Nairobi! To ensure a smooth onboarding process, please follow the instructions below carefully, depending on your admission category,” UoN stated.
“Pro Tip: To avoid missing important updates, ensure push notifications on your mobile phone are enabled. The University will continue to send important updates via SMS until the admission process is complete,” it added.
The announcement comes days after KUCCPS announced that it had opened its Inter-institutional transfer portal, which would enable students to change the institutions and courses they had initially selected.
In a statement on Saturday, July 12, the service urged students who wanted to change their courses and institutions to do so between Monday, July 14, and Thursday, July 24.
KUCCPS, however, noted that the changes to courses and institutions would only be availed to applicants who meet the applicable cut-off points.
