Mumias East MP Peter Salasya slaps un identified politician at a funeral function n Kakamega County.

Member of Parliament for Mumias East Peter Salasya has come under harsh criticism after a video of him slapping a person at a function went viral.

According to reports, the first-term MP was speaking at a funeral when the incident happened.

Salasya was recorded asking the said person to sit down and stop interrupting his speech. 

However, the unidentified person continued moving towards where Salasya before he slapped him.

“First and foremost, let me send my condolences to the family. I remember the family would always make me feel welcome every time I visited them. That’s the reason why I decided to come and console the family today. We pray that God will continue resting his soul in eternal peace. Thank you,” Salasya stated as he wrapped up his speech.

Moments later, the MP got aggrieved after he identified a local politician who stood close by, seeking to be granted a chance to address the mourners.

Salasya demanded the politician to take his seat but the politician declined.

“Go and sit down! You go back and sit down!” Salasya was heard shouting before charging towards the person and slapping him.

Further altercation was stopped after a group of individuals believed to be his security manhandled the man and moved him away from the visibly agitated Salasya.

His actions however sparked uproar from a section of Kenyans. Led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, they condemned Salasya for resolving into a physical confrontation arguing that it was tainting the name of lawmakers in the country.

“Kenyan voters must seriously retrospect,” Khalwale stated.

“What has become of our politicians? Since Peter Salasya took over power he has totally changed,” a social media user questioned Salasya’s actions.

Another social media user wrote “Is this what youthful leaders bring to the table? Why would a man slap someone who is literally in his world? Peter Salasya has let many of us down.”

However, it is not the first time Salasya is caught up in such a scenario. 

Late last year, Salasya was involved in a physical altercation during an event Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa attended.

He accused the governor’s goons of attacking him for opposing some policies delaying sugar sector reforms in the region.
