US Ambassador Meg Whitman lauds Kenya’s August 2022 elections for being recognized as the freest and most credible in the country’s history.
Speaking at the official opening of the Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Whitman stressed that the Supreme Court’s endorsement was a testament to the transparency of the electoral process.

“I arrived in Kenya days before the August 2022 general elections and what I witnessed was nothing short of a remarkable exercise. Kenya held what many analysts and commentators said was the freest, fairest, and most credible election in Kenyan history,” said Whitman as the attendees broke into cheers.
“The election has been hailed by numerous commentators and analysts as “the freest, fairest and most credible election in Kenyan history”, she added.
She added, “The elections were observed by international and local election organizations and the results were upheld by the Kenyan Supreme Court and power was transferred orderly and peacefully at the time.”

She described President William Ruto as a very strong, smart, strategic leader who gets things done.
“He is hands-on and easy to work with. He understands that economic growth and development is the way forward and has set a vision for accelerating Kenya’s drive to achieve upper middle-income country status by 2030,” Whiteman said.
She added that Ruto has also been very instrumental in fostering peace and security in the region.
Her comments come as Kenya has seen a back-and-forth between the Kenya Kwanza government and the Azimio coalition over the election results, leading to a series of protests.
Led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua among others, the opposition has been arguing that President William Ruto is not in office legitimately, pushing for the opening of the IEBC servers on claims that Raila’s votes were stolen in favour of Ruto.
In addition, Azimio leaders have maintained that they will not recognize Ruto as the president until the servers are opened, audited, and confirmed that Ruto won the August presidential election.
