The United Democratic Alliance(UDA) MP took to social media on Monday, December 11, to express his frustrations following the treatment he received.

In a statement on Monday, the lawmaker who is allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) claimed that the assault left him nursing injuries on his leg and arm.

He revealed that he had visited Nyayo House in pursuit of a passport when the officers, a policewoman in particular, attempted to extort him before the alleged assault.

“It is very unfortunate that police officers at Nyayo House are mishandling the public, and today I fell victim. I was roughed up and seriously assaulted. I sustained injuries to my left foot and arm,” he claimed.

The lawmaker claimed he was the 6th MP from the North-Eastern region to be assaulted by the security officers, adding that Kenyans of Somali descent were being forced to pay bribes at the facility.

“There is a policewoman heading security there. She collects money from Kenyan Somalis who applied for passports for them to access the premises, and she verily mishandled most NEP MPs. I am the 6th MP to be humiliated by that contingent,” added the UDA politician.

Days after the lawmaker made the claims, a video has hit social media sites showing the MP being manhandled by police officers.

In the video, a group of at least five officers make light work of the MP as they forcibly throw him out of the building.

As he was being dragged out, Yakub let out a loud cry that attracted the attention of Kenyans who were in line for service at the government facility.

The MP was dragged away by the officers after they hesitated for a while, while others kept the crowd from congregating nearby.
