Wajackoyah has dropped his running mate in the August elections, Justina Wamae, and named a new deputy party leader.

The Roots Party, led by Prof. George Wajackoyah, has announced changes to its organizational structure.

Roots Party has taken away deputy party leader Justina Wamae’s powers in its affairs and Yagnik Vinod Ramji will serve as the Deputy Party leader in the notice.

The Roots Party also appointed Janet Akinyi Odhiambo as the new deputy national chairwoman and Naran Velji Arjan as its new CEO.

“Following a resolution by the Roots Party NEC in a meeting held at the head office, we confirm the appointment of new party officials among them Yagnik Vinod Ramji as the deputy party leader,” the party said in a gazette notice.

Roots Party leader Prof George Wajackoya’s said Wamae had only been his running mate and since the elections ended, she has no role to play in the party.

“She was just a running-mate, which ended with the presidential election on August 9,” Wajackoyah said.

The development comes barely a week after Wajackoyah summoned Wamae for a disciplinary hearing.

Wamae was called to testify in response to claims that she had made disparaging and conflicting statements against the Roots Party.

Wamae had misrepresented the party’s policies, according to the statement written by Roots Party legal director Washika Wachira, including saying that Prof. Wajackoyah had endorsed Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Wamae, however, brushed off the summons and said that she wouldn’t react to such petty behavior. Later, she declared that out of respect for institutions, she was willing to attend the hearing.

She questioned whether the organizations listed on the notice would appear before the disciplinary committee to question her in the statement.

When she reported for the disciplinary hearing, she was denied entry into the party’s offices.

Police manning the gate barred her from entering the headquarters ahead of her disciplinary hearing.
