We no longer identify ourselves as Azimio; Kalonzo

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has disclosed why remaining parties within the Azimio coalition no longer identify using the outfit
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has disclosed why remaining parties within the Azimio coalition no longer identify using the outfit.
According to Kalonzo, they have been cautious not to use the name because parties within it, like the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), decided to focus on strengthening itself after Raila Odinga’s working arrangement with President William Ruto.
He said that in the new year, however, Azimio will issue a statement affirming their position as the opposition outfit.
“We are very careful not to use Azimio because I noticed that ODM has not been talking about Azimio themselves. They are trying to strengthen their position, and now that they are one leg in government, they are a bit convoluted, and I can understand, but the year and days lying ahead,”
“We will make it clear that we are the opposition, and we will hold William Ruto’s administration to full account, and we will be making a statement to give that sense of direction,” Kalonzo said on KTN.
The Wiper leader said those like him who remain in the Azimio coalition will continue to side with the people of Kenya in calling for better governance.

“Those of us still remaining in Azimio believe that we will continue to be on the people’s side, and that’s why we have said that we are the people’s loyal opposition.”
On whether the outfit will continue to exist, Kalonzo said it will be up to coalition leaders to decide.
He noted that so far, he has not seen any communication from Azimio Coalition chairman and former President Uhuru Kenyatta or Azimio party leader Raila Odinga leaving the coalition.
“Whether Azimio will remain is a matter that the principals will have to agree.”
This comes a few weeks after President William Ruto met Uhuru at his Ichaweri home and thereafter appointed some of his allies to key government positions.
Kalonzo has over time insisted that he will not work with Ruto.
