What DP Ruto promised Mike Sonko in the Kenya Kwanza government

Mike Sonko reveals what DP Ruto promised him in the Kenya Kwanza government in the event they win the August polls.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko officially defected to Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance on Saturday, ditching Raila’s Azimio coalition political outfit.

Sonko who unsuccessfully sought to run for Mombasa gubernatorial seat under the Azimio coalition said he has decided to work with DP Ruto as they share the same vision.

The former governor also declared that he would back Hassan Omar of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the contest for governor of Mombasa, citing his displeasure with influential people who, in his view, were trying to thwart his quest for the governorship.

The Deputy President in a message on Saturday broke the news welcoming Sonko to the Kenya Kwanza team.

“We welcome Mike Sonko to Kenya Kwanza, the winning team,” Ruto wrote on Facebook.

“You all know what has been going on and how I have been pushed to the wall trying to do my best for you my people of Mombasa,” Sonko said.

Ruto’s promise to Sonko

The embattled politician said he decided to support the DP for the sake of the people of Mombasa and their future.

In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that he will sign with the Ruto-led coalition, Mike Sonko claimed he had been given four ambassadorial positions, three principal secretaries, and a cabinet secretary in the national government.

Mr. Sonko has been promised three chief executives and three chief officers in the Mombasa county government.

He will also receive three chief officers and two county executive officials in Nairobi.

Mr. Sonko also thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying he has been like a brother and supported his endeavors and Wiper party leader Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka for standing by him all along.

“I wish him [President Uhuru Kenyatta] nothing but the very best of luck in his future endeavors. Going to the other side, I go in peace and promise peaceful campaigns sio siasa ya chuki wala matusi,” Sonko said.
