Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open its portal in March 2025 for students seeking university placement for the September 2025 intake.
In a statement dated Wednesday, February 26, the CS highlighted that preparations for the upcoming university intake are on track.
“In keeping with the annual placement calendar, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open the placement portal for the September 2025 university intake in March 2025,” he stated.
In addition to the upcoming university placement exercise, Ogamba noted that KUCCPS has already been facilitating placements for other institutions.
“Already, the KUCCPS portal has been open since 24th January 2025, for the placement of applicants to the Kenya Medical Training College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, for the March and May 2025 intakes,” he added.
This announcement comes days after KUCCPS clarified the delay in opening its portal for university course applications.
Speaking on Friday, February 21, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome attributed the delay to the recent ruling by Justice Chacha Mwita.

Wahome explained that the ruling, which declared the University Funding Model unconstitutional, did not provide clear guidance on how to handle students already placed under the existing framework or how to proceed with future placements.
“The judgment that was delivered by Honorable Justice Chacha Mwita did not give a direction on how to treat even the students that we had placed in the two years and direction moving forward when he said it was unconstitutional,” she stated.
Wahome further noted that KUCCPS’ actions were motivated by a desire to prevent disruptions in higher education institutions.
“Looking at where we were coming from, we were trying to avert crisis in the higher education institutions. With that lack of clarity, we felt that we also go to court, and that’s why we filed and requested that the court grant stay the execution of the judgment that was given,” she added.
