DP Gachagua slams Azimio leader Raila Odinga for making demands on the proposed Finance Bill 2023

DP Gachagua slams Azimio leader Raila Odinga for making demands on the proposed Finance Bill 2023.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has slammed opposition leader Raila Odinga for supposedly sticking his nose into the affairs of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

This comes after Odinga on Thursday outlined ten demands for President William Ruto, outlining how the leader of the state should cut back on government spending and lower Kenyans’ cost of living.

Speaking in Meru County on Friday, DP Gachagua asserted that it is not the role of Odinga to make demands of the current administration and added that the opposition leader should respect the results of the August 2022 presidential election.

“You have issued demands as who? Who elected you? Who are you in this country? Wait till 2027 then come persuade these people to give you an opportunity,” Gachagua said.

DP Gachagua similarly called out Raila for being a key cog of the handshake government under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gachagua says Odinga had the opportunity to introduce reforms, like the ones he suggested to President Ruto, when Uhuru was in power but he chose not to do so for his own personal interests.

“You had the opportunity to do those things you are saying. Can you sit back and watch how governance is done. Sisi we are focused; we have a manifesto and we have a plan for the people of Kenya,” added the deputy president.

Raila in his demands to Ruto said the Finance Bill will burden Kenyans, urging Ruto to focus on bringing down the cost of living.

He said that every budget must start at ground zero where everything has to be justified.

“Instead of imposing new taxes, seal the loopholes that lead to loss of revenue,” he said.

Raila added that the President should stop non-essential government expenditures including the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries.
