Ruto explains why bipartisan talks with Azimio are yet to resume as he gives Raila Oding TWO non-negotiable conditions.

Even though Kenya Kwanza and Azimio had already chosen their teams for the negotiations, Ruto expressed doubts about Raila’s motivations, which may have played a significant role in the postponement of the talks.

In his speech in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, Ruto emphasized the need for assurances that the outcome of the negotiations would not force him to share power with his political adversary.

During the launch of the Ichamara-Rutune Road, Ruto expressed relief at Raila’s recent remark that he did not want a portion of the government.

“They (the opposition) have agreed that they don’t want handshake, which I am of the same opinion, now I want to make a second request to them, since we all agreed no handshake, I want them to as well refrain from violence and the destruction of properties and businesses,” Ruto said.

Ruto clarified that there was a specific requirement that had to be met in order to permit his team to participate in negotiations with the opposition.

He expressed displeasure with the opposition’s ongoing calls for protests, which he believes pose a risk to property and public safety.

Ruto made it clear that if Raila absolutely renounced the prospect of calling for protests, only then could talks resume.

“If we agree on those two that there is no handshake and there is no violence then we can proceed as a country we can discuss the rest of the things.”

He expressed the firm belief that discussions would not be fruitful if the opposition persisted in leading protests that could result in the loss of lives and destruction of property.

Meanwhile, Raila has threatened should Ruto not demonstrate seriousness in the talks, he will call for demonstrations in 30 days.

The Azimio lead has also reiterated that he is not seeking to share power with Ruto.

“We have never said we want to be part of Ruto’s government,” Raila said on Suday.
