Why Ruto fired contractors on a Roadside Rally

President Ruto dismissed two road contractors from their work with immediate effect after the project they were working on stalled

President Ruto dismissed two road contractors from their work with immediate effect after the project they were working on stalled.

While addressing residents of Navakholo in Kakamega County during his development tour in Western Kenya, Ruto said the contractors failed to finish the roads they were told to construct and that they could not meet the deadline.

President Ruto said that the road project was started by him and local MP Emmanuel Wangwe some time ago, but it has yet to be completed.

“Together with Wangwe, we started this road from Shianda but the contractor has failed to meet project expectations and I will deal with the contractor accordingly,” he said.

“Then there is another road stretching from Lurambi through Navakholo to Nambacha. I was in Sang’alo two days ago. That road has also stalled. The contractor has proved to be problematic and I have chased him away.”

In addition, President Ruto stated that he will publish a new tendering procedure within a week so that by the next year, the newly appointed team will have finished building the roads.

He added that his goal is to complete all of the unfinished projects in the area before starting any new ones.

In order to reduce the expense of life, he urged the locals to invest in farming and take advantage of the low prices of fertilizer.

In an effort to keep the promises he made in his manifesto, the President has commissioned and launched a number of projects while on a visit of the Western region.

Western region has over the years supported the opposition leader Raila Odinga but Ruto is keen to tilt the region’s support base to his basket.
