President Ruto allies in Rift Valley hits out at DP Gachagua over his push for Mt Kenya unity.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is increasingly isolated in the Kenya Kwanza government over his push for Mt. Kenya unity.
President William Ruto’s close associates on Saturday, June 8, continued with their onslaught on Gachagua, accusing him of fueling tribalism in the country.
As the divisions deepened, several Rift Valley politicians reminded Gachagua that Ruto was the president and that there was no shared power in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In a direct attack on Gachagua, Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba insisted that Ruto was the head of the government and that Rift Valley leaders would not allow him to be mistreated by anybody.
“William Ruto is the president of this country. We don’t have a co-president in this country. And we, as Rift Valley leaders, we shall support the president to deliver his agenda to the country,” Kipchumba said.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also challenged DP Gachagua to give up his seat and retreat to his native region to politick there.
According to Barasa, it is irrational for Gachagua to be only preoccupied with the wellness of Mt. Kenya, his native region, despite being in the presidency, a symbol of national unity.
The lawmaker asked Gachagua to leave his current post and move to Mt Kenya region unless he commits to uniting the whole country and championing the welfare of all Kenyans, as he is second to the president.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accused Gachagua of attempting to enslave the Mt. Kenya region through his new push for unity.
“This one is from below him. We are more experienced and will neither succumb to the ethnic card mobilisation nor the inconsequential deployment of the same failed tactics or even the attempts to bludgeon us to worship an individual. That shall never happen. We are nobody’s slaves,” Ichung’wah said.
In addition, several Cabinet Secretaries, including Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, and Defence CS Aden Duale, slammed Gachagua for his push for a new revenue-sharing formula.
CS Kindiki took a swipe at the deputy president over his clamour for more resources for Mt. Kenya through the one-man, one-shilling mantra.
Kindiki argued that the Constitution’s framers rejected the principle because it could fuel sectional interests to the nation’s detriment.
