Ruto abolishes the Kazi Mtaani programme “hio si Kazi”

Ruto abolishes the Kazi Mtaani programme saying jobless youths will instead be employed in affordable housing projects.

On the occasion of the groundbreaking for the Soweto East Zone B, Social Housing in Kibra, Nairobi County, President William Ruto terminated the Kazi Mtaani Program.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 25, Ruto promised to integrate youth into the country’s affordable housing plan through the Juakali industry.

Kazi Mtaani ni mambo ya kitambo eti kuokota taka taka hiyo hakuna…kazi ni hii ya kujenga nyumba sasa..watu Wa hapa mtaajiriwa kwa hii construction project,” he said.

” The 500 youths per ward hired in the Kazi Mtaani program will be used to construct these homes. You asked for job opportunities, here they are,” Ruto added.

Ruto claimed that his most recent action, the elimination of the Kazi Mtaani initiative, was designed to strengthen the Juakali business.

Additionally, Ruto pledged to provide small enterprises with 40% of the work on affordable homes.

“The urbanization rate in Kenya is 4.4 percent therefore we must ensure our people have good and affordable houses. In Makongeni, we plan to construct 55,000 houses,” Ruto stated.

In addition, Ruto noted that the government is keen on rehabilitating the informal settlement in the country.

He assured residents that the program will not fail as it did before.

Kazi Mtaani was introduced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in April 2020 as a pilot program.

It was introduced under The National Hygiene Program (NHP) to cushion the youths from the ravaging effects of the pandemic.

It focused on select informal settlements in the eight counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kilifi, Kwale, and Mandera.
