Government (UFAA) writes to the Raila Odinga family to claim millions lying idle for about eight years.
The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) has asked Azimio leader, Raila Odinga, to collect millions left behind by his son, the late Fidel Odinga.
Paul Muya, the head of corporate communications, said Raila had not yet made a formal money claim.
However, UFAA concealed details about the businesses that turned over the multi-million dollar windfall.
It petitioned the family to collect the amount, claiming that the vast amount of idle assets totaling billions had already overburdened the authority.
“We are asking the families and beneficiaries to come forward for the unclaimed money, which is substantial,” Muya remarked.
According to a report, Fidel left a sizable financial legacy, including money in eight bank accounts and two investment funds.
The majority of the unclaimed assets, according to Muya, belonged to members of illustrious families, including the family of former Cabinet Minister Njenga Karume.
Others included the late famous American author and academic Ali Mazrui, who was born in the nation, and well-known politician John Harun Mwau.
John Mwangi, the authority’s chief executive officer, revealed that the government assets worth Ksh54.9 billion on March 28.
The property was in the form of unpaid insurance policies, mobile money in wallet accounts, unpaid pension remittances, money in bank accounts, Saccos, and legal reparations.
Consequently, the state agency launched a project to enable Kenyans to access information on assets from Huduma centres across the country.
