CS Nakhumicha dismisses claims police wanted to hurt KMPDU boss Davji Atellah terming the attack as an ‘accident”
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has denied claims that police intentionally targeted Kenya Medical and Practitioners Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah.
Speaking to NTV on Saturday, March 2, Nakhumicha said the police fired the teargas canister that injured Atellah by accident.
According to the Heath CS, the police only intended to disperse the protesting medical officers and not to harm anybody.
CS Nakhumicha disclosed that she had a conversation with the KMPDU boss after the incident and assured him of his safety just like any other doctor.

“That was an accident. I don’t think anyone intended to hurt the secretary general, and I talked to him myself and told him nobody wanted to hurt him. But it was just to disperse. But by bad luck, it hit him on the head. The is no reason to worry. They are safe. Even he is a doctor, and he is safe,” Nakhumicha said.
At that same time, Nakhumicah said the issues being raised by the medical practitioners are beyond her control, insisting that the ball lies with the National Treasury.
The KMPDU boss, Davji Atellah was shot while leading protests in Nairobi.
The union had called for demonstrations in the city to protest the delayed posting of medical interns and the payment of fees for postgraduate students.
