You'll go home if you don't change; DP Gachagua warns 'rebel' Mt Kenya leaders

DP Gachagua has fired a warning at a section of Mt Kenya leaders who have been going against the interests of the region saying they risk being kicked out of office in 2027 polls

DP Gachagua has fired a warning at a section of Mt Kenya leaders who have been going against the interests of the region saying they risk being kicked out of office in 2027 polls.

The DP who was addressing a wedding gathering on Saturday said the Mt Kenya residents have put the said leaders on notice adding that their fate would be sealed soon if they do not change.

Gachagua said his assessment of the situation on the ground has revealed that the said leaders are on the verge of losing in 2027 polls if they do not change.

“As we prepare ahead of the 2027 elections, take note the coming election will be very competitive. You know I am that person who listens to the ground. Some serious decisions have already been made,” Gachagua said.

He spoke at the wedding ceremony of Paul Wetosi and Jacinta Wanjiru, daughter of Juja MP George Koimburi, at the Juja Preparatory School grounds in Kiambu County.

The remarks by the DP come in the wake of push and pull in the Mt Kenya region that has seen a section of MPs gang up against him.

These differences have played out in the open leading to some MPs hitting out at the DP.

Some of those who have openly attacked the DP are close associates of President William Ruto, raising speculations of a fallout in Kenya’s Kwanza government.

Some of the leaders who clashed with the DP were recently linked to an impeachment plot against him though the president is said to have met the camp and blocked the plot.

But on Saturday,  Gachagaua warned the ‘rebel’ leaders saying they have until December to ‘mend their ways’.

“By this year December, the decision would have been made on who will be coming back and who is going home,” he said.

“After December, you can not change anything. For those who have lost track, you have until December to get back on track.”

The DP cautioned the country that the silence of the Mt Kenya people should not be miscontrued and that they are not following closely the political happenings in the county.

He said the region has intelligent people who are capable of deciding the right path for the region further saying they cannot be lied to.

“I always listen to the people. What I know is that the Mt Kenya people are very intelligent,” he said.

“You can see they are silent and think they know nothing. You can lie to them and they will just look at you and say nothing.”
