Imenti Central MP Moses Kirima has expressed concerns over what he describes as a scheme to sideline Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki in the race for the Deputy President position if Rigathi Gachagua is removed from office.
Kirima revealed that several legislators, including himself, supported the impeachment motion against Gachagua based on assurances that Prof Kindiki would succeed him.
However, he claims intense lobbying has begun within Parliament, with various factions now pushing for their
own candidates to take the Deputy President role.
He observed that hadn’t it been for rumours that Interior CS Kithure Kindiki would replace Gachagua, he would not have voted yes to impeach Gachagua.
The legislator elected under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket noted that since the impeachment motion was tabled in Parliament, many communities are lobbying to have one of their own appointed to the second-in-command seat.
MP Kirima stated that they initially hoped the replacement for the deputy president would be CS Kindiki which made them support Gachagua’s impeachment.
“We hoped Kindiki was going to be appointed as DP but from the time we passed that impeachment, things are not as they were,” he stated highlighting the recent turn of political events as a riddle waiting to be unraveled.
The legislator further noted that he worried about the endless lobbying going on from various sectors of society rooting for their kinsmen to succeed Gachagua should the Senate uphold the deputy president’s impeachment.
“Communities are lobbying to have their own as number two. I am concerned because we are now hearing of someone like Irungu Kang’ata. They are even calling us, lobbying us to support them,” he confessed.

Among those fronted are National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, former prime minister Raila Odinga, and Kiharu Ndindi Nyoro.
According to MP Kirima, women leaders led by Waiguru are also up in arms claiming that President William Ruto had promised them that the next deputy president will be a woman.
These confusions shrouded in mere speculations have chilled MPs from the Meru region as to whether they made the right decision in backing the motion to impeach Gachagua in the hope that Kindiki would be appointed.
“I am much concerned that there are also other players who have come into the scene who want their person in,” he remarked.
The Imenti Central legislator also dismissed allegations that Parliament danced to the tune of President Ruto by voting yes to impeach Gachagua.
“I want to insist that there is no time William Ruto called us and told us to impeach Gachagua. It was a charge sheet which was read in Parliament. We have our own brains and consciousness,” he defended the Parliament.
