Saboti MP Caleb Amisi reveals Raila Odinga strategy in the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi recently revealed the rationale behind ODM Members of Parliament’s decision tosupport impeachment against Rigathi Gachagua.

Amisi spoke in Kiminini during the burial of a retired teacher in his constituency on Saturday where he revealed a conversation with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the height of talks of Gachagua’s ouster.

According to the outspoken lawmaker, he consulted with the African Union Commission (AUC) chair hopeful on why ODM-affiliated MPs were voting to impeach Gachagua yet they wanted both the ousted DP and the President to go home.

“I asked Baba why we were getting into a feud between two people  (President Ruto and Gachagua),” Amisi told a congregation on Saturday, November 2.

He added, “Raila said ‘If you wanted both to go home and a chance has presented to send one of them away, why not send him (Gachagua) away first?’ Because it is easier to send them home one by one.”

Amisi also fired a warning to President Ruto, saying the head of state was walking on thin ice as far as his political future was concerned. The MP added that ODM legislators’ decision to vote to impeach Gachagua was on the directive of their former party leader.

Meanwhile, Ruto has tried his best to shun talks of politics and allegiances in recent weeks, with the President instead focused on attempting to appease Kenyans by shifting his attention to his party’s promises from 2022.

On Sunday, November 3, the President briefly alluded to his relationship with Raila Odinga, saying he had put aside his differences with the former Prime Minister because their respective parties all had Kenya’s best interests at heart.

“Raila collaborated with me to bring Kenya together without caring which party we were from,” Ruto said.  “In both the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza manifesto, we had a focus on healthcare. In both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza manifesto, there was a focus on housing.”

The President also appeared to aim a parting shot at the impeached Gachagua by urging leaders currently holding office to focus on the development agenda.
