Uhuru's Jubilee Party announces its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections

Jubilee Party has endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections

Jubilee Party has endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday, January 25, during a meeting with local Jubilee leaders in Narok County, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni noted that Matiang’i will bear the party’s flag in a bid to unseat President William Ruto.

Kioni urged the leaders to start mass grassroots registration of Jubilee party members to ensure that Matiang’i clinches the top seat.

“Fred Matiang’i is the one they are saying is in jubilee. He worked with the party for 10 years. So, we as the Jubilee party have our own candidate, Fred Matiang’i. He will face off with other candidates to ensure President William Ruto goes home. You have to start registrations and send the message to the people and we don’t want fights,” Kioni remarked.

The Jubilee Secretary General stated that the party wanted a candidate from a minority community to lead the nation.

He explained that the Mt. Kenya region has previously supported a minority candidate and that it was time again to support a candidate from a minority community.

“We want a candidate from a minority community. Let us be united and cast our vote in one basket. The other time we voted for Ruto and others voted for Raila Odinga. Even this round we will also vote in a candidate from a minority community,” Kioni stated.

His remarks come after Kisii senator Richard Onyonka declared that the Gusii community will support Matiang’i for the presidency in 2027.

Speaking at an event in his county on Friday, January 24, Onyonka decried small communities like his own being sidelined by successive governments.

“As a community, we have decided our candidate in the 2027 elections is Fred Matiang’i. We will not reconsider that. If you have a dysfunctional country and institutions are not sharing the cake equitably, then you must look for alternatives to force those in power to share the resources equitably,” Onyonka remarked.
