Natembeya hints at possibility of working with Gachagua
Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has hinted at the possibility of working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a live TV interview on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Natembeya revealed that they were not enemies with the former deputy president and that their vision for the country aligns.
“He is not my enemy; his ideas and mine are in sync, but to say that we are in communication is untrue. Gachagua was in Kenya-Kwanza, and he was ousted by members of his party for reasons that are unknown to me.
Personally, I have no reason to be enemies with Gachagua, and no one should push their enemies to be mine,” Natembeya revealed.
He, however, disputed remarks that he was in communication with Gachagua, after they both claimed that their lives were in danger as a result of their sustained criticism of the Kenya-Kwanza administration.
“When I came out of the interview studio on April 15, 2025, I was informed that the same concerns about my life had been expressed by Rigathi Gachagua. It was pure coincidence,” Natembeya said
“Apart from the incident where my vehicle was stoned during the funeral ceremony of the late IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, there has never been any other hostility to me, unlike Gachagua, who is attacked every other time when he holds a public rally.”
He expressed that despite being close political allies, he would not hesitate to pick up Gachagua’s phone call to discuss matters concerning the future of the country.
“If the government seeks to establish whether I have been speaking with Gachagua, they have more than enough intelligence and systems at their disposal to determine that,” Natembeya said.

“I have never talked directly with Gachagua despite having worked together with him in the provincial administration before he left.”
On April 15, 2025, Natembeya vowed to continue with his criticism of the government, noting that any form of intimidation tactic would deter him.
“Following someone around makes it seem like this country lacks freedom. It’s as if anyone who doesn’t sing praises to the President is seen as a problem. I won’t accept that. I have said that I will keep talking. I know he will send people to come after me. Maybe they will come to kill me, Mr. President, I don’t care. Whether you kill me or not, I will still die. So I am going to speak up,” he remarked.
The remarks came just after Gachagua threatened police Inspector General Douglas Kanja with personal responsibility should he or any of his family members be attacked by political goons as police turn a blind eye.
“Take Firm notice that might further violence and assassination attempts be meted on me whatsoever, you will be personally responsible to the people of the Republic of Kenya and to the entire world,” Gachagua stated.
